Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup unbleached flour
1/3 cup salted butter, cold and cubed
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup chopped hazelnuts
1 egg
3 Tbsp eggnog
1 Tbsp brandy
With you fingers rub butter into flour until like coarse crumbs. Then mix sugar, chopped hazelnuts into flour and butter. Then in another bowl whisk egg, eggnog, and brandy together. Pour into dry mixture. Stir until forms a rollable ball. If the dough sticks to rolling pin, knead with more flour. If it crumbles, place in bowl again and mix with a Tbsp of water at a time. Flour on both sides of dough and roll out to a 1/4 inch thick and use a set of star cookie cutters to cut out different star shapes. Shape one or two cookies like a stem of an evergreen tree. Butter cookie sheet and place cut out cookie dough about a 1/2 inch apart. Bake at 375 degrees F for 12-14 minutes until bottom of cookie is browning.
Let cookies cool. Powder with confectionerʼs sugar. Then line a plate with foil and place stem at bottom and then place larger stars at base and work your way up, overlaying stars to make a point of an evergreen tree and then place a star at the top of your Christmas Tree. Your Christmas Hazelnut Cookie Tree is now ready to be admired and eaten.
